Speaking of zines    2026-04-23 11:32:06 ET
Am cleaning up my room now. Found a little fold out guide to making zines. I remember finding it in my local library. I like how the libraries are promoting zine creation. A couple of years ago there was a massive zine fair on St Mark's Place. Like a 3 block long street fair. Hopefully it'll happen again. I should keep an eye and ear open.

Sometimes I kinda need to remind myself that I'm alive and that the time passing is kinda not getting used as well as I'd like it to. When I was a kid, I was weirdly active but didn't realize it at the time. I learned about so many things and so many subcultures (heh, should I spell it "subkultures" on this site?) and, looking back, it's kinda weird how many things and events happened in bursts during short periods of time. Nowadays, I do get the same bursts but they're more limited. If I end up doing stuff during a weekend, the weekend seems to last for a few weeks since the amount of stuff experienced stretches out the time to make it seem much longer. I don't even have to leave the house since I've got stuff I can read and work on here.

The weather outside seems freaking great at the moment though.

I took the week off. It's not been bad. Would love to travel again but prices are wacky due to politics and idiocy. It's not likely to snow anytime soon again so I should probably take a Friday evening bus trip to Montreal. Or DC. I need to go back to the Spy Museum there. Haven't been back there since they've switched locations. I think last time I went there was with a good friend who, at the time, was still alive. Time passes. Places change. When we don't see the types of places and things we want to exist, we create our own.

Fuck, writing is fun. I should start a zine.

I've got paper and a couple of toner cartridges. How the fuck does one typeset or whatever it's called? Lainzine is nice. I mean it's full color and I can't do full color but still.

Are these rambling thoughts? Probably.

I'm running out of Club Mate. The refills aren't cheap. I'm cheap. I should save money.

I should check Eventbrite to see if there are any events occurring in any of the consulates or UN missions. That's always fun. I noticed that the Argentinian Consulate has some Argentinian artist exhibit occurring. I need to be more social again and go to these new events. New York's a layer cake of subcultures and you need to keep switching layers otherwise you get stuck on certain flavors. The flavors aren't bad but you miss out on a lot. It's like living in history. You don't want to read about good things that you were around for after they've ended. You read about something cool and then you're like "oh shit, I was alive for that! I didn't know about it and now it's gone." Let us live the good times directly and not via hindsight. We'll all die at some point so we should help each other enjoy life since it can end in the next second or in a thousand years. Plan for the now and plan for the forever.

Rambling again, eh?

Who cares.

I should fuck around with my interests more. Because they're interesting.

 It's 2026    2026-03-28 13:22:43 ET
It's 2026. I'm actually figuring out how to be more active in my interests. Don't get me wrong, I still spend a lot of time just sitting there doing nothing but the amount of time I'm spending actually doing stuff is improving.

The annoying thing that inspires me is that I seem to be so much more active in my dreams. I actually go outside and see cool places and experience cool things and then I wake up. The dreams don't come out of nowhere though. I slowly eventually figure out what they're inspired by: cool experiences that have happened years apart. I think it's my brain going "hey, that was cool. Let's find more of that."

Why is that annoying? Because the dream geography tends to be consistent so I walk around the real world with a map of a non-existent world in my head with all of these cool places and now I have to spend the effort to find places with similar vibes irl. The upside is I'm sure that the places exist but they're never as easy to get to as in my dreams. Still, life can last for a long time or it can end in the very next second so I should spend the time looking.

Anyways, I'm rambling. Adios!

Happy New Year!    2025-01-02 02:18:53 ET
It's 2025 and it seems like I'm just now getting off my ass and working on the hobbies that I've developed over the years.

I definitely need to start writing A LOT more. It's the easiest way to just create things. It's weird. Like sometimes you just want to make something and the only thing holding one back in writing is a blank page whereas a lot of other creative outlets usually require the development of skills or adding things to one's own personal inventory.

I'm currently sitting in the public area of a hostel in Berlin. Sometimes I like to picture myself from the past taking a quick glance at my life during present day and just giving a quick analysis. It kinda keeps one's hopes and wishes grounded. Anyways, I'm going to peace out for now but I'll see if I'll drop by again later. Years between posts seem like the norm for me these days but sometimes things change and sometimes things stay the same.

I'm still lazy. I'm still a n00b. I still make bad jokes. I still sleep on the floor. I still use a thinkpad. I still have too much optical media but, hey, that's more cyberpunk.

Uh, what else?

Not much has changed. I think I moved since I last updated.

Oh, wait, wtf, I last updated in 2020 and 2019? Damn, I'm a lot more active on this site than I remember.

 It's 2020    2020-05-08 18:04:36 ET
I'll post more soon.

Just had a thought the other day about how many future milestone dates we've passed: 1999, 2000, 2012, and now we're in 2020.

It's interesting living life in the 21st century while remembering tthe future dreams of the late 20th.

Lolwut (SubKultures meetup train of thought)    2019-07-28 08:35:03 ET
I've got a job now. Going to start saving now.

Well, except for Restaurant Week expenses.

And Soviet ice cream expenses.

But no Defcon for me this year. Again.

Also now that I'm employed, I think I should actually start focusing on organizing an SK meetup.

Manhattan, Brooklyn, and Queens are the current location ideas.

South Brooklyn (Brighton Beach/Coney Island) works best for me if I don't want to travel and if you guys want to go to the beach.

Hmm, but we're technically strangers so that might not be the best first outing.

Queens is hella cyberpunk. It's basically Mars from Cowboy Bebop. Tons of different cultures mixed together tighter than a wound up Brooklyn.

Downside of Queens? Trains tend to get fucked on weekends. Plus deciding on a neighborhood.

Maybe a meetup starting out in Manhattan and then playing it by ear? Downside of that is that latecomers will have to figure out our current location.

Hmm. Probably midtown then. Union Square is fun but, unless everybody wants to walk, we'll be relatively distant from other places. Some people are probably not drinkers, others probably don't eat meat or have allergies or just don't like certain types of food so we need a diverse selection of options. Times Square is boring and crowded and expensive.

Hmm, Penn Station is a bit too to the West. But most people will easily be able to reach that area.

K-Town then. Meet up in K-Town somewhere and then plan it out from there.

And if nobody shows up then I'll just eat chicken or go to the all-you-can-eat buffet by myself. That'll be a win-win.

Fuck yeah.

Hmm.

Who is in?
I'll go back through my previous comments and stuff to see who was interested but if you're reading this now and are interested in an SK meetup that will start out in Manhattan, around the K-Town/Empire State Building area, sometime in August, let me know.

C'ya!
