Just decided, on a whim, to read up some of my first posts on here. Holy fuck, I was a lot more active and a lot less lazy than I remember. I don't think I've progressed much in the 15 years that have passed. Fuck it, I need to get into gear.

..but I'm going to take a moment to post some updates.
So basically I moved. I'm basically 5 minutes away from the beach by foot. I didn't realize that at the time I was apartment hunting but that's how it ended up. Hopefully the city will build a sea wall or something before the next hurricane comes.
It's not bad. I like it so far though I've got to figure out how to pay the maintenance and the mortgage. I should probably take care of that tomorrow.
It's interesting though. The ONT (the Optical Network Terminal which is the box that converts a fiber optic line into a coax and/or a cat6 ethernet connection) is in my apartment as opposed to a basement somewhere like when I lived in a private home. So I literally have a fiber optic cable going into my apartment. That's probably something incredibly average and barely noticeable these days but I remember being young and wondering if we're ever going to have fiber optics going directly into our homes. The future happened and I'm only noticing it in hindsight.
Digital tv reception kinda sucks. I get no PBS stations over the antenna. That's across 2 apartments in 2 separate boroughs. Also shortwave reception isn't much better than the previous place which is bizarre since I'm higher up in the building and don't have buildings blocking my view. Might need to stick a wire antenna out the window. Maybe I'll drop by Micro Center tomorrow to pick up some wire. I should look up the gauges. I should also actually read my ham radio license exam book since I already got my license but I only started the book out when I took the test and passed. I've no idea what I'm actually allowed to do on the air. And the license is going to expire soon, I think.
Also I'm still unemployed and broke. Going to have to borrow some cash soon. I can probably get a job faster if I take a drastic cut in pay but I don't even know if that's guaranteed. And I need to focus on my college work as well. My habits aren't good right now. I need to work on myself and on my procrastination issues too.
Fuck. I could be doing better but I'm not. Still, I haven't given up. And there's a Soviet deli nearby that's open 24 hours. I get my Russian ice cream there. I might pop over there after I write this. I've not been outside today or yesterday. Storms start to pick up when I consider leaving the house. Yesterday there was so much lightning and thunder. Mostly lightning though. It reminded me of dreams I've had when I was younger. Weird dreams of being in some apartment or hotel room with a view of a highway and a beach and then seeing some weird Air Force vs UFO dogfights in the night sky. The dream sounds kinda light when written down but the events felt much heavier in the dream. Mostly because the UFOs were huge and the feeling and realization of seeing a switch in the world happen in front of my eyes. Like, if that really happened, that would be a big deal since it would mean that aliens exist and all that jazz so in the dream it felt like a huge deal.
Oh, I just remembered, the closest thing I've found that resembles the scale of things seen in my dream is that footage from China of that airplane crashing by a highway.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jKNREZ_u8E8
That's the video of the airplane crash. Imagine seeing something twice the size of that crashing or dogfighting within a mile of your location.
Actually, writing this is reminding me of other dreams I've had. Ones that didn't involve UFOs but weird aerial vehicles that, in my dreams, would crash or do weird shit by where I used to work or where I used to live or in locations existing only in my dreams. It's such a bizarre sight to see considering the massive scale differences. I think I'm writing this down not for you guys but for me since it's a weird way of holding on to the memory.
Back when I used to live with my parents, when I first moved into that house, I had dreams about the basement flooding or looking out the window from the first floor and seeing the house surrounded by water. Then, when Hurricane Sandy happened, my dreams apparently came true (though the house didn't detach from its foundation and float a few block away like in some of the dreams) but, ironically, I wasn't around to witness it as I was staying in a cozy hotel in midtown Manhattan, courtesy of my job. Now I wonder if my current living location is actually corresponding to the dreams of massive airplanes and such. I don't know.
Man, I can just ramble on about my dreams but they're not important to anybody and are mostly entertainment to me even the scary ones.
Wow, this is a long blog post. I've not written in a while. I miss it.
I've an English paper due but I can't come up with a thesis that will require easy research. I need to have at least 2 points I need to make. Fuck, I better focus on the other classes though.
I don't know for how much longer subkultures might still be around. Since I need to develop my skills and such, maybe I should make some dark web version of it. Expand my python skills and actually gain some web development skills in this post-geocities era. I focus too much on the end result without taking the time to develop the capabilities required to get to the end result. I've been living in the future for so long, I've forgotten how to deal with the present. I'm a fucking noob and I need to move ahead. Uhm. I should probably finish this with something interesting, shouldn't I?
I should but I shan't.
We definitely should do an NYC SK meetup but I think I'll mull it over this weekend. Then I'll make suggestions. Best place to meet up would probably be in Coney Island since I can walk there.
Fuck, this is long in the tooth.
Signing off!

| Karaoke 2019-03-28 22:33:53 ET |

So this past weekend I hogged the mic while doing karaoke at a party (it's easy to hog the mic when people pick songs and then don't come back to start singing them). Anyways, I remember how songs go but I never actually think or listen to how it's actually sung. I picked Lust for Life by Iggy Pop/David Bowie and for some reason I always thought the lyrics were half-spoken and ended up butchering the song. It was an epic fail. It was great. If it was between Cain, Abel, or me then I think the gods would've picked a butchered song as the greater offering.
The horror.

Anybody active up for an SK meetup in NYC?
If it ends up being jut me at the meetup then that'll be okay. I guess we should plan it at some place where there are things to do if nobody else shows up. That way it's always a win!

| Cheesy writing 2019-03-26 08:00:06 ET |
|
So I've finally started writing yesterday. Figured that drinking coffee and writing cheesy noir cyberpunk fiction in one go might be a good idea. I think Amazon has a thing called Kindle Singles which are short one-offs or something like that.
I recently read a book, that you can borrow for free if you have Prime, that was called "Spycraft Rebooted" and it was supposed to be about how the intelligence and counter-intelligence agencies of the world deal with new surveillance and tracking technologies. It was a book with a heavy focus on the past and a only a relatively light focus on the present. The book was really short, coming in at 60 pages. I figured that if this guy can publish a 60 page book and let people read it for free and hcarge them $2 for buying it then I can do the same.
Now, if you're interested in what the book says, it basically doesn't explain how the agencies are addressing the whole problem of creating fake identities and stuff. Instead it just goes to say that a lot of things are done digitally these days and contradicts itself in places when it says that agencies (all over the world) are doing things that the author in a previous chapter said are now obsolete. I don't remember the exact details. Also the author keeps saying "we" like he's writing training materials for the Farm. This would be okay if the guy wasn't a journalist. Now I'm not against taking sides when reporting if one still reports on all of the facts as one finds them out and if one is open to new discoveries that may change one's opinions but this is more than a bit weird. Also the author's wikipedia page lists him as Estonia's first e-resident which is kinda cool and interesting in my opinion. Here's his wiki page:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Edward_Lucas_(journalist)
Anyways, did over 2,500 pages yesterday. The writing probably drags in places and I've caught myself switching the perspective from first-person to third-person a couple of times but at least a story began to form out of what I was writing. I've no idea where it's going but it's supposed to end being written quick and of decent quality. Hopefully it'll feel like a generic pulp especially since I'm going to upload it onto Amazon to sell at pulp prices. I need a nom de plume though. Probably something stupid.
