My dad flew in from Moscow on Tuesday. His plane took off 2 hours late to my mom had to spend 2 boring hours waiting for the plane to land at JFK. He's about to go through another passport. This is his second U.S. passport which he had only for 2 years or so and this one only has 3 pages left for visas. The first passport went through the same process. Wacky stuff. Too bad that you can't keep a passport once it gets filled up. Anyways, my dad also brought me a Palm V. He got it from my uncle like a year ago, took it to Moscow, realized that he didn't nned it, and now he brought it back... ubt he couldn't fit the cradle into the baggage. So now I have a Palm V but no way to charge it or to transfer files.
Oh, and that really is Harrison Ford saying "What up, bi-atch?!". It's his son's skateboarding video or something.
Also, I finished Cryptonomicon last night. I still hate how Stephenson, in the book, starts to go on descriptive tangents that are 20 pages long and aren't related to the story. Isn't the Cryptonomicon supposed to be the first part of a trilogy?

| Advice on buying shortwave radios.... 2004-10-06 20:52:17 ET |

Don't. Don't buy a shortwave radio. Digital tuning is better on a shortwave radio than analog tuning due to the need of precision. But the problem with all of the shortwave radios that I've seen is modulation. It is a common misconception that all shortwave radio station operate on AM (Amplitude Modulation.) They do not. In fact a suprising number of SW stations operate on other Modulations such as FM (Frequency Modulation), WFM (Wide Frequency Modulation), and even USB (Upper Side Band) and LSB (Lower Side Band). Most, if not all, of the SW radio recievers that I've seen only capture the AM stations. Thus it is a much better deal if you get a radio scanner and use that to listen to shortwave. A good scanner will beat any shortwave radio reciever out of the water with a bamboo stick.

LONDON (AFP) - British mathematician Stephen Hawking is more of a role model to teenage boys than soccer star David Beckham and comes a close second to rugby hero Jonny Wilkinson."
--------------------
YES!
-------------------------
Hawking, author of "A Brief History of Time," was quoted in the magazine saying: "Over the years I've been voted the second-most intelligent person in Britain and was amused to be listed among the world's 10 sexiest men.
"But I'm honored to be an inspiring role model. Thank you," said Hawking, a Cambridge University professor.

Woo-Hoo!

"We all need goals to aim for and my motto is still 'The more you practice, the luckier you get'."
