Driving Test in 1 - 2 hours    2004-11-26 07:50:22 ET
I hope I don't fuck up. Gotta remember to look around when doing broken U-turn. Gotta stay below 30. Gotta watch out for pedestrians. Gotta read the road signs. Gotta avoid potholes. Gotta start breaking as I'm making a left turn. Gotta check the cars for planted explosives. THEY might use this as a chance to get me! I won't be taken like that! If the car fails to start up I will run like hell away from it! Damn cartels!

Driving Test This Friday    2004-11-25 20:21:24 ET
I hope I pass. If I don't then I have to go through the whole learner's permit procedure again cause my permit expires on the 30th.
Here's to keeping one's fingers crossed.

WASHINGTON -- A growing number of national security specialists who supported the toppling of Saddam Hussein are moving to a position unthinkable even a few months ago: that the large US military presence is impeding stability as much as contributing to it and that the United States should begin major reductions in troops beginning early next year.

Their assessments, expressed in reports, think tank meetings, and interviews, run counter to the Bush administration's insistence that the troops will remain indefinitely to establish security. But some contend that the growing support for an earlier pullout could alter the administration's thinking.

Those arguing for immediate troop reductions include key Pentagon advisers, prominent neoconservatives, and some of the fiercest supporters of the Iraq invasion among Washington's policy elite.

The core of their arguments is that even as the US-led coalition goes on the offensive against the insurgency, the United States, by its very presence, is stimulating the resistance.

"Our large, direct presence has fueled the Iraqi insurgency as much as it has suppressed it," said Michael Vickers, a conservative-leaning Pentagon consultant and longtime senior CIA official who supported the war.

Retired Army Major General William Nash, the former NATO commander in Bosnia, said: "I resigned from the 'we don't have enough troops in Iraq' club four months ago. We have too many now."

Nash, who supported Hussein's ouster, said a substantial reduction after the Iraqi elections in January "would be a wise and judicious move" to demonstrate that the Americans are leaving. The remaining US forces should concentrate their energies on border operations, he added. "The absence of targets will go a long way in decreasing the violence."

Yonadam Kanna, secretary general of the Assyrian Democratic Movement and a member of Iraq's interim National Assembly, also backed the US-led removal of Hussein. He now says Washington must "prove that the United States is a liberator, not an occupier."

Well, the past week has been fun. The film festival started last Thursday ( http://www.nyfilmvideo.com ) and I've been sporadially helping them out. On Tuesday I went with my parents to see 2 Russian/American films that were playing. One was a great mockumentary called "All or Nothing" which I'll probably describe in a later post. The other film was called "The Black Prince"and it was a so-bad-it's-good film starring Ray Charles Jr. I'll write up a post later on the hilarity of that film. Anyways, at the theatre I met up with Dernyn and Jahdee and after the films ended we went outside and ate some pizza and discussed some random tech stuff. After discussing a lot of tech stuff we decided to go on the net but then decided that paying 5 bucks an hour wasn't really worth it so we decided to go to a bar. The bar's name was Lucky Cheng's(sp?) and they had karaoke. Almost nobody was there so for the firsttime in my life I "sang" karaoke. The first song I sang was"White Room" by Cream and then all 3 of us sang Abba's "Dancing Queen". It was so terrible. Anyways, then Lucky Cheng's closed and we remembered that we passed some other karaoke place on the way to there. So we backtracked and found out that, due to the fact that the night was slow, the karaoke at the new place was free! So I made a total fool of myself singing stuff like Bohemian Rhapsody; Louie, Louie; and other ranndom songs. Then the bar closed and we decided to spend the night at Jahdee's place. The next day was Off the Hook but there was an underground fire so stuff. Then I went home.

Then on Thursday I was planning to stay home but got a call from the music festival people that they needed my help and so I headed off. Then I went to the afterparty after which I went to a pizza place and met up with Jahdee and Dernyn and we decided to go to the karaoke place again. Stuff happened.

Blah blah blah blah blah.

Half an hour ago my old Toshiba laptop died. Now I need a job and a new laptop.
