2022-07-24 23:41:42 ET apparently there was a heat wave sweeping the nation a few days ago. i mean, yes, this particular day was atypically "warm" for san francisco summer standards too. i think i can hear the foghorns... they're going "LOOOOOOOOL"

2022-07-20 01:05:29 ET i've lived in san francisco for over 8 years now, and in my current apartment building for over 2 years, and yet i just now realized that the front cover photo / promo image for "san francisco rush" (a game and series that i've always been rather obsessed with) was shot basically around the corner and 2 blocks up the hill from where i currently live - an intersection i've walked through many times but never realized this until i just went on an internet dive relating to the entire rush series this evening and put 2 and 2 together. here's the cover: ![]() in real life there's no cable car on this street, and both of those cars are about to smash straight into a wall / stairway that basically goes up part of one of the cliffs of telegraph hill. there's no more street in front of them. here's a photo i took on the 4th of july about halfway up said stairway (that building in the right foreground is blue these days as opposed to the tan it was then) ![]() congratulations: you've now been unnecessarily educated on this bit of pointless trivia.

2022-07-12 13:01:32 ET there are reasons i live - and stay - in san francisco. atrocious civil liberty violations like the plans mentioned in this linked article - things that the rest of the country has all but never fought against and now just put up with on a daily basis or even embrace - virtually never even make it past the “hey maybe we could…” stage here without massive protests and/or the board of supervisors telling the mayor “hell no” and “fuck off”. FWIW all of google’s rampant public datamining / hacking / surveillance via things like their “maps” program - that the rest of the country just lets happen - is also 100% illegal here. also cops here have a citizen oversight board. i can only hope the rest of the country starts to get more collective political fight in them as well. i do hope, however terrible the events themselves are, that things like uvalde are finally starting to wake more people up to the fact that cops aren’t your fucking friend. |

2022-07-02 23:54:37 ET it's nice to see my up-the-cliff neighbors actually using the tower portion of their house the past few nights. for a while they were not using it at all, and i would sit here silently judging them for not doing so. if you're gonna live in a place like that, you better damn take advantage of it a lot and often. ![]() |
