In a song do you tend to focus more on the music or on the words? Or what?

Crap, I need to set some short term goals for myself.
Also, must get Triple Sec liquor as it seems to be mentioned in almost every single cocktail recipe.

...:
She had long blonde hair which was done up in pigtails. I liked that. She wore a white summer sun dress with large red polka dots on it. I liked that too.
I was sitting in one of those retro 60s retro mod art-deco ball Aarnio Eero ball chairs sipping on a glass of water and looking around the club around me. The girl was taking orders for drinks from the various patrons. Some on the dance floor, others in other ball chairs. Some from couples sitting together in bubble chairs hung from the sequine-plastered ceiling. I kept catching her eye as she gracefully moved through the darkness and light, balancing a tray of cocktail and wine glasses on one hand.
I flirted with her throughout the evening. Later on I caught her looking at me with a look on her face as if she was considering something. As she noticed my eyes resting upon her she smiled, gave me a wink, and slowly tangoed on over to my seat.
"I don't believe I got your name"
She smiled.
"Casey Joint"
I wasn't sure if she was bullshitting me but there was no need to press on. I kept it light.
"Case Joint? What are you? A thief? A Bond girl?"
She smiled again as if she had to answer this question a million times. I suddenly felt a slight pang of guilt.
"Heh, no. Both of my parents were Deadheads. They had a weird sense of humour and I guess I was the inadvertant punchline to one of their jokes."
She looked at the glass of water in my hand and smirked.
"You know, this place has an unofficial cocktail. A sort of house special. If you want it I can get it."
"oh?"
"It's something the founder came up with. It's a mixture of vodka and orange juice... spiked with a bit of LSD. It's called the 'Electric Screwdriver' Are you into that?"
"I'll have it if you'll have it."
She laughed and guided me to the rear of the club. "Time of the Season" by the Zombies started playing over the sound system as we faded into the faux fog.

So here's a theory:
You know how junkies going through withdrawal kick a lot cause of the pain. That's why they call it "kicking the habit."
So maybe "Get your kicks on Route 66" refers to a guy quitting heroin while on a cross-country trip? No? Yes?
