In a song do you tend to focus more on the music or on the words? Or what?

music. there are some songs I've known for years and I'll take a second to focus on the lyrics and say, "oh that's what they're saying?"

Most will get caught up in a catchy beat (even if s/he won't admit it) without realizing the lyrics or the song's meaning.

The words and the music must dance together in a beautiful seizure of melodies.

usually lyrics. but there are some songs i listen to just for the bass line or the beat.

I was talking with a co-worker at a bar a while back and she mentioned that she liked some song because of the lyrics. I told her that I didn't care much for lyrics and focus more on the melody. She seemed surprised at that and I was surprised at the fact that she was surprised. I'm wondering if what you focus on in the music is related to other things in life.
