It's not the motion of the ocean, it's the lotion on its skin.

Dropped the girlfriend, aka the Kimster, at her parents' house so she can have a happy Thanksgiving. Then I drove home. Twas my parents' car. I don't have my own yet. Yet. I need to practice on a car with a standard/manual transmission.

The Kimster pointed something out once. Maybe we all want the type of car that we used to draw as a kid when we wanted to draw a car. I would draw a boxy car. Like an old Volvo or an 80s Toyota Corolla or Nissan Sentra. The Kimster would draw some sort of roadster. This matches up with our modern tastes.

Maybe? Possibly?

Anyways, I got home at late midnight. Possibly 1am. Then I remembered that I had to test out a gps unit that we found in the garage. We didn't use it to go to the Kimster's parents' place due to the fact that it didn't know the street. The gps unit's maps are about 3 years out of date.

No matter. I rubbed some spit onto the suction cup and stuck the unit onto the windshield. For some reason spittle keeps those suckers attached much better than normal. Maybe the water in the spit evaporates and leaves a bit of a vacuum?

Anyways, it's some sort of Korean unit.

"Plenio vxa-4300"

It's pretty good. Has all of these sightseeing features. Found the local lighthouse. I'm assuming it's not being used anymore because it's not lit up at night.

Spent 3 hours driving around. Then spent about half an hour at the local diner eating a burger and fries and downing 2 cups of coffee.

Listened to some of this while driving:

Good stuff.

I'm feeling tired. I'm debating whether to witness the sunrise but the shades are drawn and I might have missed it.

Maybe I should just stretch, crack some joints, and rest my head.

I'm hungry. The coffee is not helping.

This is interesting. A good idea but has a few little issues. Like the usb plug breaking off every time a laptop shifts or the fact that it seems like an easy way to catch a virus. It's a sort of usb glory hole methinks.

Wesley Willis (r.i.p.) is playing on the XboX. Something about vampire bats.

It's Halloween.

I should finish cleaning.

Maybe there will be some good old fashioned high weirdness today. Or it may just pass like every other ordinary day. I guess every day is ordinary and special in its own way.

My stomach rumbles.

I am hungry.

 A Columbus Day Morning    2010-10-11 05:51:19 ET
Me and the Kimster....The Kimster and I are sitting at the table eating breakfast. Some sort of corn flavored square things. She puts sugar in her cereal bowl. Sprinkling it over the corn things. Not sprinkling. Pouring. I say "Damn, woman, that's a lot of sugar!" and she just smiles and keeps on pouring.

Damn, that's a lot of sugar.

We paid a visit to Comicon this past Saturday. Nothing too exciting. People in costumes, gathering in droves around items offered for sale. People paying cash for the opportunity to buy things with cash. Not exactly my scene. I found it altogether boring though, to be honest, we did not attend any of the talks. Why? We don't need to. We're cool like that.

The Kimster was dressed up as Death from the Sandman comics. She got something autographed by the guy who designed the characters for Metalocalypse (aka Dethklok). She felt bad for the guy because noone was coming up to the guy to see him. So she had her photo taken with him only to see him scowling next to her. Sometimes there's a reason why nobody comes by somebody's booth. I guess a permanent scowl is as good a reason as any.

Anyways, I should finish up this write-up. I just felt the need to write and decided to throw it down here old school style. You know how it is. Don't you?

So it's just another Columbus Day morning and I'm glad I have today off from work. Hopefully it will be a productive, fun day. Hopefully.

Ciao.

Your thoughts, please.    2010-10-08 10:36:11 ET

Life is not about the destination but about the journey. About how you reach out towards some unclear goal and then, after a while, you start smelling something burning and, with the corner of your eye, you realize that the parking brake IS STILL ENGAGED! You disengage it and more confidently push the gas pedal...only to hit bumper to bumper traffic because the highway has closed down to an overturned trailer...that was carrying a house. Now the house is laying on the side of the road, fully intact except for a broken window here and there and you, after waiting for about 2 hours with no sign of movement, get out of your car and walk over to the house. Some of the other drivers have moved in, temporarily you hope, and they wave you to drop by and join them. You look around but all you see and hear are lights and horns of the still non-moving traffic. What the hell, you decide and walk on over to the side of the house and climb in through, as carefully as possible, through a broken window. It's strange walking on what used to be a wall of a house but what is now a temporary floor. You make your way to the door, climb over half the wall and clumsily fall down to the other side. You pick yourself up and dust yourself off. Some of the other drivers are here. They are playing poker. They wave you into the game and you check how much cash you have. This is Texas Hold 'em you see. And now you're the big blind. You play a few rounds and then..

And then the house turns over and all of you card players go tumbling down towards the floor. The real floor. The house sways. It's being picked up by a giant crane. The traffic jam must be clearing!

You rush down the stairs to the first floor and throw open the front door only to find yourself 10 feet above the ground, legs shaking afraid to jump. But the workmen below aren't afraid of encouraging you to go for it. To make their lives a little easier. To make everyone's life a little easier.

So you jump

And you fall

And you tuck

And you roll

To break the fall. And you stand up and you dust yourself off.

And you walk back to your car.

And you wait until the traffic jam clears almost fully.

And you hit the gas

And you turn on the radio.

And you drive towards that vague goal in the distance, bopping your head to the tunes playing.

Because that's life. Sometimes it's just a card game in a house that has fallen down by the side of the road and you wait for it to be picked up before you make a jump for it. And when you land you're all you. Fully aware. In your element. The element of your being.

And your car, a pale green hatchback model. With the windows closed. To hide the smell of dead stinkbugs on the windshield.

Go, man, go!
