i mean i can't speak for chicago or elsewhere but here's what i can say as someone who's knee-deep in political shit and has seen "behind the scenes" plenty of times including actually working for some campaigns:
the DNC and whatever deep state cronies they have (though in this instance, i think it's mostly just the DNC themselves) absolutely fuck with votes and vote counts and commit straight up fraud that they try (increasingly poorly) to hide every fucking election. this is particularly bad in a state like california but it happens pretty much everywhere.
that stated, as someone living in san francisco, i can all but guarantee you most san franciscans who voted for anyone in the national election voted for trump, and the "official" vote count by the city / state was a complete fabrication.
kamala harris is absolutely hated here and there's a reason she was chased out of both the city and state after her single-term, fascist, psychotic, inhumane, and deranged stint as DA. virtually everyone i've talked to in SF - virtually all of whom are technically independent-left politically - has openly admitted that of course they were voting for trump, with only *one* person i know of who didn't and he didn't vote for kamala either cause he knows her psychotic trackrecord - i think he just wrote in someone or didn't vote for either.
but on the ground, trump absolutely seemed to have the majority of the support here. hell, not only were there way more people rallying around the trump campaign's merch booths than kamala's (kamala's were almost always dead with no one paying attention to them), but i found out near the end of the campaigns that all of kamala's booths in SF were, hilariously, staffed themselves by trump voters and MAGA people who signed up for kamala's campaign as "volunteers" without telling her campaign this, and then jacked up all her merch prices and pocketed the extra profits for themselves whenever they did manage to sell anything. so yeah, not only was the sentiment of the general population squarely on trump's side here, but even kamala's ground team was all secretly on trump's side.
the vote count in CA broadly was an absolute sham and based everything i know broadly speaking about how the DNC operates, i'd bet good money the numbers were fudged and faked for kamala in many other cities as well. FFS all the actual left-wing liberals with historical pro-piece / anti-corporate stances joined trump's campaign while kamala was proudly endorsed by the fucking cheneys. i literally know only one person nationwide who claimed she was voting for kamala, and she's a paralegal living in seattle which is the most neoliberal stockholm syndrome city in the country. but, other than that...
the country didn't "shift right" like all the moronic, divisive, hyperbolic press is telling people - trump actively courted and won out the actual american left by being the actual pro-peace / pro-civil-liberties / pro-economy candidate and because people realized that he has admitted where he faulted the first time around and that the media just stirred up a hysterical narrative about him that was never true.
so uh anyway, TL;DR it's pretty normal to wear trump stuff here without getting hassled and i think most other cities, with the exception of your DemBot NPC 5000™ friend (who i don't believe that from either - i've talked to trump supporters all over the place and my brother has been to a bunch of their rallies - a lot of them are straight up hippie peaceniks who'd never assault a fly) it's honestly probably similar and the powers that be just fudged the vote count to make it look like kamala did better in those places than she actually did. you know, with exceptions of certain neoliberal hellholes like seattle or minneapolis which i could see legitimately being dumb enough to actually vote in large swaths for her over him.
oh yeah, the vote count for our mayoral election was also massively fucked with. there's no way in hell our previous mayor who's approval rating was lower than biden somehow came in 2nd place in the ranked choice vote here legitimately. but she's a willie brown dick-sucker just like kamala so, she gets strings pulled in her favor. at least she lost anyway. but yeah, the vote count that was reported here and elsewhere in california is a total fabrication. |
