oh i think you maybe partially misunderstood - i understand that the standard URL for youtube videos has always been "youtube.com/watch?v=whateverthefuck" yeah but that links to the full youtube page with the whole youtube UI / comments section / etc. etc. etc. - you used to be able to just solely link to the video in a browser window withut any of the rest of the youtube UI showing up by changing the url to youtube.com/v/whateverthefuck but google changed this years ago now so both options just link to the full page. wasn't even aware of youtube-nocookie.com til you made this post, or the fact that this also just links to only the video independent of the full youtube website - which you used to be able to do with the youtube.com/v/videoID option but you can't anymore.
anyway, yeah, good to know either way. kinda surprised that's actually an official option from google/youtube and not some 3rd party embed site, since it seems like google is so perpetually hell-bent on constantly shoving cookies and datamining and UI clusterfuck down everyone's throats whether we want it or not. but hey whatever i'll take it i guess. |
