SINoBYTE 2004-04-07 08:13:29 ET I am fucking SICK of trendy, boring, idiotic scenesters!!! So uneventiful, so ridiculous in the way they look. Pretentious and egotistical...for what? I think they thrive off the negative attention and their lack of being able to dress themselves and find a style. The PROBLEM: If it weren't for them 80% of what i find thrifting would go unsold. DAMN. :(

Maelstrom 2004-04-07 09:17:40 ET Its funny, I used to be the official "thrift buyer" for a friend of mine who had a little "alternative"/surf shop and I could pick the stuff out that the scenesters would buy every time. It made me feel dirty, but I needed the $$ at the time. I'd have this mock up of a trendy dude in my head, and if I could picture him wearing it, I'd buy it. Worked like a charm. Every time I bought something for the store that I would consider wearing, it never would sell!

Maelstrom 2004-04-09 02:48:31 ET Heeh - the other day I thought I saw a scenester at the gas station - then I realized it was an older guy who was wearing an old baseball type t-shirt, mesh back cap, studded belt and too tight jeans in earnest. I almost died. I wonder how he feels about his style getting co-opted

missanthropy 2004-04-13 16:48:58 ET i have the same problem. i used to be made fun of mercilessly for wearing thrift store clothes and having my own style. now that it's become "trendy", the thrift stores have jacked up their prices, and i can't find anything because it's been picked over a thousand times.
