ZOMBIES

When i first heard of the "Dawn of the Dead" *REMAKE* i shrieked like a little girl. Not because i was excited, but out of disgust....
DAWN of the DEAD is a KILLER movie that really needs no re-telling...

Months past and trailers and reports start to show...I am starting to really wonder about it!?
I mean: YAY! for more zombie flix. But BOO! for ripping off such a great piece of cinema...They are now "OFFICIALLY" calling the *REMAKE* a "REVISIONING." Either way it should be interesting....the thought of running zombies rocks!

what do you think???

I'm vehemently opposed to remakes of movies that simply do NOT need to be remade. I'm also a big Dead series fan. However, this looks like it has the possibilty of being interesting, especially as a "revisioning" rather than a remake. What I find most interesting is the timing and style. Why remake this movie NOW? Style-wise, it looks like its trying to borrow from the success of 28 Days Later; an out-of-control, apocolyptic epidemic rather than just some mysterious, wandering corpses. I think this type of movie will become even more popular because it's a reflection of what people are truly terrified of right now: some sort of massive diaster and/or hysteria that the government has no control over (see also terrorism). Horror films are always interesting reflections of common fears. We will see.

p.s. Sorry for the excessively wordly reply.

well put tho!
Also much thanks for *NOT* comparing the "infected(which THEY ARE NOT ZOMBIES! -very passionate about this topic.)" in 28 DAYS to that of the Zombie genre... The zombie movie i have had planned to do for the past 3 yrs(taking shape this year -FINALLY!) is based off of contamination. It's a VERY "REAL" and scary basis for horror movies ...more later.

My partner is somewhat of a "zombie purist" so I've heard the schpeal. Semi-side note: Have you seen the documentary The American Nightmare?

2004-01-11 15:13:14 ET

i keep passing it over at the vid store....usually just for more gore or Japanese flicks(horror, Yakuza, Samurai, etc....

It's pretty good. It's got interviews with George Romero, Tom Savini, Tobe Hooper, John Carpenter, David Cronenberg, et al. Mostly talking about WHY they made their movies and sharing anecdotes.

2004-01-11 22:14:23 ET

well, not that it needed to be remade... but it definately does look worthwhile. and i think "revisioning" is a lot better term for it then a "remake"...

2004-01-12 07:59:53 ET

what always pissed me off with dawn of the dead was the shite music...it just didnt scream scare to me like texas chainsaw did...course if i were to do a horror film it would probably be filled with noise and dark ambient...maybe some death industrial...no rock/metal bands though, and deffinately no stupid synthesizers gone funk...

2004-01-12 08:00:44 ET

oh yeah, the trailer doesnt look too bad, looks like they have more of an ethnice diversity, and more people to kill...

2004-01-22 11:25:21 ET

Best thing about the origional is how Tom Savini looks EXACTLY like he does today.

Dawn has always IMO been Romero's greatest. Why not do Part 4?? If I remember right Romero has a screen play for a fourth dead film, but just never recieved enough funding for it since day of the dead wasn't exactly a blockbuster. He was looking at the success of Resident Evil as being a possible spring board for getting a studio to want to do his fourth film.... Oh well.

2004-01-22 22:20:13 ET

but resident evil sucked ass, so im guessing poor romero had to throw that back into the file cabinet...

Newest Fangoria has a nice little piece on the "Re-visioning"
