Reading over my old posts

Holy shit, I used to post about listening to shortwave on a scanner? Totally forgot about that. Maybe it's time now for me to head home and load up either a websdr, a real sdr, or a shortwave receiver. When I was younger, I had the will but not the way. Now I have the way but lost the will. Fuck, I sound like Ugandan Knuckles.

Speaking of, so it seems like Uganda doesn't have any of the clicking languages present as a main language. Seems like the official languages over there are English and Swahili. Thing is that a third language is present there and it's quite popular. It's called Lugunda and, this is what interests me, is that it's a tonal language. I wonder how many African languages are tonal? It'll be hilarious if the Ugandan Knuckles peeps decide to take the meme to the next level and end up learning Lugunda.

I was actually just looking at SDR stuff myself. Kam's dad has one of those dongles you told me about years ago. I've always meant to get one and mess around with it myself but it just never happened. I'll probably order one of the kits somewhat soon. Now that I live on the second floor and have access to the attic I can set up a somewhat decent antenna. Either that or I'll just get some old shortwave receiver. Or both.

I'll find a shortwave receiver for you. I have one or two extras laying around my place somewhere. Shit, I should invite you over. It's a mess though and the insulation sucks so it gets chilly in here except in the small bedroom where I've made my nesting hole.

The rtl-sdr.com store has the best version of the dongle that I'm currently aware of (haven't done much research though but they've the most common modifications including the one to fix frequency drift caused by temperature changes in the internal components of the device).

This is the link to their store.

Scroll down for the Amazon link. The $27 kit comes with a fucking huge telescopic antenna.

So I got the RTL-SDR kit. It was actually one of the things I had been looking at but went ahead and ordered it the other day. I guess the newest version supports direct sampling without any hardware mods which is nice, and the antennas it comes with aren't bad either but I definitely want to buy or build something better, specifically for HF stuff. I've also got an upconverter bookmarked on Amazon that I'll probably order eventually too.

Oh shit, I should bring my HackRF with me. I got the PortaPack for max cyberpunk leetness.
