Will do research for money.

Pass it on.

test my theory that you can accurately predict any future event by calculating all possible probabilities involved.

2005-01-27 11:56:30 ET

In order to calculate all of the possible possibilities involved in a situation one will need to know all the possible factors. If you know all of the factors then, if the universe does in fact work like clockwork, you'll be able to tell the future just by observing the change in factors. Since quantum physics says that the universe isn't clockwork and is chaotic in its underlyings then it is still possible to quite accuratly predict the future by observing all the factors involved. The only difference is that you won't have a 100%chance of success and will need to update the list of factors constantly.

exactly. While this is theoretically possible we don't yet know what all the factors in any given situation are AND variables may indeed occur at a quantum level so being sure to take all the factors into consideration would be very difficult.

though on a small scale it IS possible to predict the future.

It takes joe about 30 minutes to get home from work. joe left 15 minutes ago. He was not asked to run any errand and he knows dinner is waiting at home so he probably will not delay. Joe is a cautious and consistent driver and the odds of an acciednt are slim as it is.

conclusion. Joe will be home in 15 minutes give or take.

like that only on a grander scale Asteroid k-1593 is 1 light year away and currently moving towards our solar system at a million miles an hour calculate the odds that it will interact with celestial bodies along the way and then state the odds that it will hit earth and name a date.
THATs the kind of thing I mean but we can't currently do that

Research proposal:
"How Many Gallons of Paint Can A Man Induce?"

I'll pay you $5 a day provided that by 11:59 p.m. of each day you will finish a gallon of black water-base latex housepaint. Report all illnesses/death that occurs in your life during this one-month period.

2005-01-31 05:29:22 ET

What do you mean by "induce"?

2005-01-31 05:42:57 ET

methinks it are meaning "imbibe"

2005-01-31 07:06:48 ET

Oh, well, then that's not a research proposal but an experiment.

2005-01-31 07:12:43 ET

also, it amounts to being paid $5 to kill yourself.

2005-01-31 07:17:42 ET

I don't konw if it'll kill me. Maybe my pores will get bigger and I'll start sweating out black paint.

research proposal, experiment, killing spree...meh, what's the difference.
