I'm finally doing a project which I wanted to start doing a while ago. Research on the Defense Switched Network which, according to Wikipedia, is: "a primary information transfer network for the Defense Information Systems Network (DISN)."

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Defense_Switched_Network

I'm fascinated by it because it is an international phone system parallel to the PSTN ("Public Switched Telephone Network" - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PSTN ) To put my fascination with it in perspective think about the idea of parallel universes. How 2 3-spatial-dimensional universes can exist nano-meters apart in 4-dimensional space. 2 worlds so close to each other and yet unaware of each others existance (yes, yes, I know that by saying "aware" I'm using personification. Who cares?) Well, it's the same with the DSN and the PSTN. 2 world-wide phone networks (which actually probably do intersect in places) existing side by side. I'm researching the PSTN right now as well but because the DSN is owned/controlled by the military the technology aspect of it is more different and exotic in nature. Or at least that's how it seems to the outside observer who is me.

Anyway, before Firefox crashes on this computer (weird problem. Can't tell if it'ssoftware or hardware that'scausing it) I'll post up some info on the issues of 2600 magazine that I know have information on the DSN...
