Me, Enamon, and Venadium went to the mall to buy stuff. I bought 3 dvds. The Criterion(sp?) Collection version of Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas ("One toke over the line!"); Lucio Fulci's The Beyond (I like House by the Cemetary more though); and Dark City (good movie but the cuts are waay too fast. Like every 2 - 5 seconds there's a cut.)
Anyways, I got home and then Saturday at 4am I got up, caught the 4:30 train to the ferry, caught the 5 o'clock ferry, took the train to the WTC PATH train stop, got on the path, got off at some station. Transferred to the Hoboken bound train. Got off at Hoboken. Got on a New Jersey Transit train. Got off eventually. Called my friend. Found out that he hasn't left his house yet so I had to wait for him inside the train station. So I went over to a payphone with a built-in TTY terminal and attempted to get the operators to dial ANACs so I can get the real number that they're calling from. Fun stuff when you're bored. Anyway, my friend's car apeared and I got into it (wow! The excitement!) This was about 9am. We got in and sped off. My tooth wasn't hurting so I was feeling fine.
At around 11am we arrived in Harrisburg, PA and went to the gun show. It wasn't as good as the one we went to a year and a half ago but at least this time I knew more about guns and could readily identify some of them. Having almost no money on me I walked around trying to find Arisakas, SKSs, Mosin-Nagants, Mausers, Nagant Revolvers, Tokarevs and Makarovs. Well, I found all but the last 2. I did find the Czechoslovakian Takarov copies but that's the closest I got to it. There weren't as many Mosin-Nagants or SKS as I hoped there would be but at least they were there. I'm pretty positive that almost all of the Mosin-Nagants that I saw were carbines because I was surprised at their short size. The SKSs were, if I remember correctly, even less in number but the hilarious thing was some of the pricing. You'd see them going for 120 bucks, 160 bucks, and then you get to this one table that just had one SKS laying on it with the following sign: "RARE SKS $760". That was probably the most ridiculous thing there. There was a shitload of Mausers as there should've been. There's so many variations on it that I would've been surprised if I only saw a few. Oh, funny story, there were 2 kids (I don't know why I call them "kids". They probably were older than me) who walked up to this guy selling Enfield Model 4s (if I remember correctly) and asked if he had any Turkish Mausers or where to find them. And the guy just looked at them bewildered and said "How should I know?". Why would a guy selling Enfields and only Enfileds have Trukish Mausers? And why were they asking him instead of the many people who had Mausers laying on their table? I'm guessing that the kids didn't know how a Mauser looked like and were probably askingthat verey same question to anybody selling a bolt-action rifle. Btw, most of the guns at the show, about... oh, I'd say 50% of them were bolt action .22s. It was totally ridiculous. There weren't so many last time I was there so it's really weird. What was also missing from this show were cheap handguns. Like 60 dollar revolvers from non-name companies or weird ass, reddish brown .22 broomhandle pistols with a barrel so long it reminded me of the Joker's gun in Tim Burton's original Batman movie. There was only one guy selling extendable battons but he was selling them at almost double the standard market price so I didn't get one. What I did get though is a pair of binoculars. 8-25x25. That's damn good. There were other tables selling 8x25 for 80 bucsk And 12x30 for $100! That's insane.
Eh,.. I gotta run now. i'll finish this post soon.
Anyways, then we drove back to New Jersey, I caught the train back to NYC, and then went to a friends birthday party where stuff happened.
Not too interesting of a post this is, me thinks. |
