On the Subject of Names...

Mike is short for Michael, Ron is short for Ronald. So why isn't Christ short for Christian? Why Chris? Where did the whole "Chris" notion come about? Did Jesus appear in the sky one day and told his flock: "I've come back to you to correct you on my name. I am not Jesus Christ but Jesus Chris!" And then the word was spread. I mean, if you seriously think that the correct short form of "Christian" is "Chris" then you must be calling your friends Ronald and Michael: "Ro and Mi". And no, those aren't the leaders of the, now deceased, Heaven's Gate Cult.

So, from now on, all you "Christians" out there, and by that I mean the people who are named "Christian" and not the religion, don't drop the "t" when you shorten your names for casual purposes.

I think it's a sound thing. Christ sounds much harsher than chrisnot a whole lot of names sound like that

And why is it that people pronounce "Christ" as K-RAH-AIST but then pronounce "Christian" as K-RHEE-ST-EE-AN? Why not say K-RAH-AIST-EE-AN?

.... here we pronounce it Kr-eye-st and Kr-ihs-tian.

and again it's b/c of the rules of the english language hehehe

rules of the scientific english language also tells Jebus to shut the hell up and let the name Christ dawn.

I think perhaps the name was changed sometime in the early first hundred years after Christ. I know that in some cultures they still do, indeed use Christ for a name, but more politically that name is reserved for the son of god, thus the change in the name to Chris or Christopher or Christobal or Cristobal or Christian or Cristoph.
