So I turn on the scanner today afternoon (I was scanning this morning. A continuation of last night's scanning) and am amazed that I automatically end up on some french station using WFM (wide frequency modulation) but I notice a voice underlying that transmission which, although I can't hear what the voice is saying, comes off sounding Russian due to the speech patterns. Now I automatically know that it could either be Russian, Czechoslovakian, or Polish so I keep tuning forward to see if it clears up. As I tune I jump the modulations to see if the underlying voice is broadcasting using a different modulation. Well, aparnetly there's not only a Russian sounding station along with a French one broadcasting on that set of frequencies in the 11mhz range but also a Spanish station and an Italian one! Crazy stuff! So I keep tuning on. Eventually I find the Russian station about a 100khz away using AM. And, yes, it was Russian and not Polish or Czech. Later on when I tuned to it though it turned into a British station. Maybe it was the Voice of Moscow?
Oh, and I made a slight mistake. I'm not scanning in 10khz increments. I'm scanning in .10khz increment. I forgot to mind the dot. So thats why I'm only up to 11mhz even though the 2 or 3mhz range was my scanning origin.
Anybody here into shortwave? |
